Report: Conte personally requested that Spurs sign 26-year-old in the past

CalcioMercato have revealed that Antonio Conte is the man who is driving Tottenham’s interest in Sofyan Amrabat, with the Spurs head coach said to be a big fan of the Fiorentina star.

Foot Mercato reported last week that Spurs, Liverpool and Inter Milan are expected to battle it out for Amarabat’s signature in January on the back of his impressive showing in the World Cup.

Reporting on the matter on Sunday, Revolo also backed up the interest of the two aforementioned Premier League clubs in the Morocco international and suggested that Paris Saint-Germain could also enter the race for his signature.

Calcio Mercato have now explained that Conte had personally requested that the Tottenham hierarchy to sign the 26-year-old in the past, with the 53-year-old alleged to have told Fabio Paratici about the midfielder: “No one passes with him in the middle of the field.”

The report adds that Spurs are ready to push ahead with a move for Amrabat, claiming that Liverpool and Marseille are the North London club’s biggest competitors for the Moroccan.

CalcioMercato also state that Fiorentina feel ‘protected’ at the moment as they have the option to extend the midfielder’s contract till 2025. It is asserted that the Serie A club would only consider selling Amrabat in January if they receive an offer exceeding €30m (£25.7m).

Spurs Web Opinion

While I do expect Spurs to loan out Pape Matar Sarr, I believe that the club will want to sign an attacking midfielder like McKennie or Malinovskyi to replace the Senegal international rather than another number six.

In Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Bentancur and Skipp, we already have four players who do the same role as Amrabat, and it is difficult to see why Spurs would be in the market for another midfield destroyer.
