Report: Conte places Aston Villa star on list of six Tottenham transfer targets

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is one of six players on Tottenham’s list of summer transfer targets for Antonio Conte, according to the Telegraph.

Spurs are on the verge of heading into the transfer window on a high, with one point against Norwich on the final day of the Premier League enough to book their spot in the Champions League.

Head coach Conte will be making plans ahead of the opening of the market and has reportedly told Spurs chiefs that he will need up to six new additions to make sure his squad is competitive next term (Telegraph).

And the same publication has revealed that Villa’s McGinn is just one name that features on that shortlist, with both Tottenham and Conte thought to be admirers of the 27-year-old.

The report notes Spurs are expected to keep the Scotland international firmly in their discussions this summer ahead of any potential move as the transfer window progresses.

It adds that McGinn, whose contract runs until 2025 (Transfermarkt), is not one of Villa’s highest earners despite signing an extension over two years ago.

McGinn has established himself as one of the top-flight’s most energetic midfielders since helping the Villans make their return to the Premier League in 2019.

He has made 34 appearances this season and has kept Steven Gerrard’s side in contention to finish in the top half of the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

McGinn has consistently been one of Aston Villa’s top players and he has shown that since they made their return to the Premier League.

He is pretty good across all roles in midfield going forward and defensively, but the issue is how much Villa will demand for him considering he has a long contract.

The move would be decent overall and would provide depth in quality, but it has to be for a sensible price to be worth it.
