Report: Conte ‘probing’ for reunion with 22-year-old defender at Spurs

Antonio Conte wants to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni to fulfil his request of adding a new left-sided centre-back, according to CalcioMercato.

This comes after The Athletic recently revealed that Bastoni appeared on a shortlist of defenders on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

CalcioMercato report Conte is ‘probing’ to secure a deal to bring the 22-year-old to North London in order to improve his options in defence ahead of the new campaign.

The Spurs head coach spent time alongside Bastoni during his stint with Inter, though it is also explained there is currently nothing concrete in place in terms of a deal.

However, the report also explains that a transfer could materialise if the club is in need of funds, especially if Stefan de Vrij pens fresh terms to keep him at the club for a while longer.

De Vrij’s current deal expires in the summer of next year, but his potential commitment in the long-term could ease the stress on Inter being forced to find a replacement.

Bastoni has emerged as one of the most talented defenders in the world in recent seasons, so getting a deal done would definitely be a tricky one.

Conte knows him well, though, and will likely be pushing Spurs to secure a transfer, especially as he fits in well with his request for defenders.
