Report: Conte ‘pushing’ Paratici to sign 23-year-old midfielder for Spurs

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonio Conte is pushing Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

Gazzetta first reported in November that Conte wanted McKennie at Spurs in the January window, with the Italian said to view the midfielder as ‘the new Arturo Vidal’.

Tottenham’s interest in McKennie was also backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that the North London club had also tried in vain to sign the midfielder in the summer.

According to The Sun, the Lilywhites face competition from Leeds United for the USA international’s signature.

However, McKennie has established himself as a regular in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting eleven over recent weeks.

Gazzetta have now claimed that Allegri is happy with the way McKennie has progressed and with the 23-year-old’s increased goal return.

The report reveals that Conte ‘appreciates’ the midfielder and is pushing Spurs to try to snap him up.

It is explained that while Juventus would listen to ‘suitable offers’ for McKennie, they do not ‘seem willing to open the door to Tottenham’ for now.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs are to move for McKennie, it will likely be in the summer rather than in the next two weeks. I am not completely convinced by the USA international. While he would probably be an upgrade over Dele Alli, I would much prefer Spurs to get Kessie, who I feel would substantially improve our starting eleven.
