Report: Conte situation could stop one Spurs player leaving permanently

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the potential departure of Antonio Conte could open the door for Bryan Gil to return to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer rather than joining Sevilla permanently.

Gil signed for Spurs in the summer of 2021 from Sevilla and arrived with great promise.

Unfortunately, things have never quite worked out for the Spanish youngster in North London.

The 22-year-old has racked up just 31 appearances for Spurs, registering two assists but failing to score (Transfermarkt).

During his time as a Tottenham player, Gil has had loan spells back in his native Spain with Valencia last season, and now back at former club Sevilla this year.

It appears the young winger is enjoying himself there, too, and he even admitted he doesn’t want the current season to end (Sevilla FC TV) due to how happy he is in La Liga.

While Conte was seemingly reluctant to utilise Gil in his first team, things could change at Tottenham very soon. It is suggested the Italian will leave his position by the end of the week (Telegraph).

The latest out of Spain reveals Sevilla’s loan deal does not include a purchase agreement for Gil.

It is thought the player was loaned out due to limited chances under Conte, with Spurs not wanting to “cut his projection” and hoping to allow Gil to develop with more game time.

The report adds that Sevilla believe Conte’s potential departure “complicates the acquisition” of Gil, as the Spaniard may be keen to return to Spurs and fight for his place under Conte’s replacement.

Sevilla are believed to be eyeing other transfer targets instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think we’ve seen glimpses of what Byran Gil can be capable of and I really hope he is given a chance next season for us.

He’s definitely a player we should be keeping hold of, and a new manager could be the key to unlocking his talents.
