Report: Conte to put Spurs squad through ‘mini pre-season’ over international break

The Evening Standard have revealed that Antonio Conte and his coaching staff plan to put the Tottenham players through ‘a mini pre-season of gruelling fitness and tactical work’ over the next two weeks.

The majority of the Tottenham senior squad are now away on international duty and Conte thus has only ten first-team players to work with during the two-week international break.

That is certainly not ideal for the Italian, who is still trying to impose his ideas on the Spurs squad.

The Evening Standard have now reported that the Tottenham boss is ‘desperate’ for time on the training pitch and is frustrated at losing his internationals.

The report claims that the 52-year-old wants to start transforming the squad’s fitness.

The players who remain at Hotspur Way are thought to have been given Monday and Tuesday off but they are allegedly set to be put through some gruelling work over the international break.

It is claimed that Conte’s schedule for the next two weeks includes several days of double sessions, with the Italian and his staff set to focus on the players’ conditioning.

There is no doubt that the Tottenham players’ fitness levels have dropped considerably over the last couple of years since Pochettino left the club. So, an increased focus on fitness and conditioning is arguably the need of the hour for the Spurs squad.
