Report: Conte ‘tore into’ Spurs players after defeat against Sporting

The Daily Mail have claimed that Antonio Conte ‘tore into’ his players in the away dressing room after Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.

Tottenham fell to their first defeat of the campaign at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, and it does not appear as if Conte took too kindly to his side’s display.

The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that the Spurs boss issued some stern words to the players after the loss and scheduled a training session on the morning they arrived back from Lisbon.

The report explained that the players arrived back at Hotspur Way at 1.30 am on Wednesday and instead of having an afternoon session as planned, they were asked to report to training at 11 am.

This has now been backed up by The Mail, who suggest that Conte’s decision to enforce a morning session could be deemed as ‘punishment’ for the team’s poor showing against Sporting.

The report adds that Conte was ‘angered’ by the way his team imploded on Tuesday and did not hold back on his players after the final whistle.

I do not think Conte would have been too disappointed with the performance, on the whole. They were many positives to take from the second-half display and were it not for our sloppiness in the final third, we would have won the game.

What would have angered Conte was the fact that the team switched off defensively in the final few minutes of the game and allowed Sporting to take the lead off a set-piece.
