Report: Conte wants reunion with Inter Milan star at Spurs – May not fit Levy’s plan

Antonio Conte wants a reunion with Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij at Tottenham after holding talks with chairman Daniel Levy about the club’s January transfer plans, according to The Guardian.

The Italian recently spent time with Levy, managing director Fabio Paratici and technical director Steve Hitchen to talk about improving the Spurs squad.

Following the meeting, Tottenham are said to have put a new midfielder, right-wing-back and striker at the top of the priority list this January.

Conte may have found his answer to the centre-back dilemma according to The Guardian, who suggest he is keen to link-up with De Vrij again.

However, the report states he does not fit Levy’s ideal profile for signings, given he is turning 30-years-old next month, with the Spurs chief likely looking for those with resale value.

De Vrij was a key part of Conte’s side that claimed the Serie A title last season and is still a first choice option under current Inter boss Simone Inzaghi.

Reports emerged suggesting the Dutchman had been due to enter talks with the Nerazzurri about extending his current deal, however, those plans have allegedly been shelved by the club until the summer.

If Conte has identified De Vrij to fulfil his centre-back request then Spurs just have to trust him and make the move. It isn’t a move that Spurs would typically make, but they know each other well and he can slot in a back three comfortably, as well as bringing plenty of experience.
