Report: Conte wants to bring 25-year-old goalkeeper to Tottenham

90 min have claimed that Antonio Conte wants to bring Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana to Tottenham Hotspur.

Hugo Lloris’ Tottenham contract runs out at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will put pen to paper on a new deal.

According to 90 min, irrespective of whether the Spurs skipper signs a new deal, Conte has informed the club that he wants to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Onana is thought to be at the top of Tottenham’s shortlist as he is seen as a good fit for Conte’s system due to his ability to play out from the back.

The report claims the new Spurs boss has been an admirer of the Cameroon international for a long time and has informed Fabio Paratici of his desire to have him in North London.

The Ajax goalkeeper has missed the last nine months of action after being banned by UEFA for testing positive for the forbidden substance, Furosemide, with the 25-year-old claiming that he took his wife’s medicine by mistake.

Onana’s current deal at the Johan Cruijff Arena runs out next summer and 90 min claim that he will not be signing a new contract with the Eredivisie giants.

However, it is explained that Tottenham can expect to face plenty of competition for the shot-stopper’s signature, with Newcastle and Inter Milan also thought to be showing interest.

Lloris’ distribution has improved considerably over the last five years. However, that is still arguably the Frenchman’s main weakness, particularly when compared with modern-day goalkeepers.

I can see there being some truth to this report as Conte does prefer playing with a goalkeeper who can pick out his midfielders and wing-backs so that the team can bypass the opposition’s first line of press.

Another thing to consider is the fact that we have the option of making Gollini’s loan deal permanent next summer and the Italian is very good with his feet.
