Report: Conte wants to offload two Spurs defenders before window shuts

The Times have claimed that Antonio Conte wishes to offload both Matt Doherty and Joe Rodon before the transfer window slams shut.

Rodon has had just two starts since Conte arrived at Spurs at the start of November.

Although the Italian previously insisted that he sees the Wales international as a backup to Eric Dier in the central sweeper role in his back three, the former Swansea man did not feature even when Dier was out injured.

Meanwhile, Doherty has been getting more game time under his belt over the last few weeks.

The Republic of Ireland international was particularly impressive in Tottenham’s dramatic 3-2 win over Leicester last week, making the kind of attacking forays he was known for during his time at Wolves.

However, if The Times are to be believed, Conte wants both Doherty and Rodon to leave the club over the next week.

The report adds that apart from those two, Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso are also expected to be offloaded by Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is pretty evident that Conte does not rate Joe Rodon, given that the Welshman hardly got any opportunities despite the injuries to Romero and Dier. So, I expect the Welshman to be sold rather than being loaned out.

Doherty has displayed over the last few weeks that he is a much better wing-back than he is a full-back. However, between him and Emerson, I would rather see the Brazilian stay given that he is still only 22 years of age and still getting used to the demands of the Premier League.
