Report: Conte wants to sign Tottenham player but salary demands may be an issue

According to the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s current salary might be a potential stumbling block in Napoli’s efforts to land the Tottenham man.

Napoli

Earlier this week, Corriere dello Sport reported that ahead of his first season in charge in Naples, Conte had asked the club’s hierarchy to bring Hojbjerg to the club.

Hojbjerg is attracting transfer interest this summer

The report claimed that the former Spurs boss had identified the Dane as the ideal replacement for Zambo Anguissa, who is expected to move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Gazzetta have now also reported on Napoli’s interest in Hojbjerg, stating that Conte views the midfielder as someone with ‘great quality and temperament’, with the Italian believing that the Spurs man can add a lot to his squad.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s wages may be too high for Napoli

The report says that the deal to sign the former Southampton man would not be difficult for the Italian club to complete since he has just a year left on his contract at Spurs.

However, the biggest issue might be Hojbjerg’s salary as the Serie A side are trying to keep their wage bill ‘under control’.

Hojbjerg made 39 appearances for Tottenham last season, with just eight of those coming as a start in the Premier League (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Hojbjerg might be tempted at the prospect of reuniting with Conte, having had a key role under the Italian at the North London club.

The Dane is not going to have any shortage of offers to choose from, with a long queue of clubs likely to be after him.
