Report: Conte was first person Christian Eriksen met in hotel after PL return

Christian Eriksen bumped into Antonio Conte in a hotel reception in London earlier this month just after completing his move to Brentford, according to The Athletic.

Eriksen, who spent six-and-half years at Tottenham, joined the Bees on a short-term deal following his release from Inter Milan.

The 30-year-old was not allowed to represent the Italian side, with Serie A rules preventing him from playing with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which was installed following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

He made his return to competitive action on Saturday, coming off the bench just before the hour mark of Brentford’s 2-0 defeat to fellow relegation-battlers Newcastle.

The Athletic has now provided the details behind Eriksen’s move back to the Premier League, which included an unexpected encounter with current Tottenham head coach Conte.

The report explains that Eriksen was staying at the same hotel as the Italian in London and was the first person he met in the reception area, where they engaged in a short conversation.

The pair spent a year-and-a-half together at Inter and enjoyed success when they secured the Serie A title last season.

Eriksen and Conte obviously know each other pretty well and this was an off-chance that they ended up meeting again. If he has a successful spell at Brentford over the next few months, it could be entirely possible that Tottenham make contact with him to improve the side’s creativity.
