Report: Conte would want to take one Spurs player to Juventus with him

A report from Italian outlet CMW has claimed that if Antonio Conte was to take over at Juventus in the near future, he would be keen to take Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero with him.

Antonio Conte’s current contract with Spurs expires in the summer of 2023, and rumours linking him with a return to Juventus continue to bubble away (Calciomercato).

Tottenham do have the option to extend his contract, but talks look likely to be on hold until after the upcoming World Cup (The Five Insider).

With Juventus crashing out of the Champions League earlier this week, the pressure is well and truly on for current boss Massimiliano Allegri. It remains to be seen whether he will still be in the job come the end of the season.

If Allegri is relieved of his duties, there are some who suspect Conte would want to return to the Turin club in favour of completing his Spurs project.

The report from CMW suggests that if Conte does make that move, then he will try to get Cristian Romero to join him. Romero, of course, was once a Juventus player, before joining Spurs, though he never made an appearance there.

Romero left Juventus for Atalanta, before signing for Spurs last summer. The Argentinian defender has become a firm favourite in North London, impressing many with his combative and passionate displays.

The 24-year-old has made 43 appearances for Spurs so far (Transfermarkt) and is considered by many to be one of the finest young defenders in world football.

To lose Antonio Conte would be a huge blow, but to lose Cristian Romero with him would be incredibly hard to accept. That said, it’s unclear whether Romero would even want to return to Juventus, especially after finding it so difficult to break through there previously.
