Report: Conte’s attempts to persuade Bastoni to join Spurs have had ‘no effect’

According to Corriere dello Sport (02/06/22 – as relayed by TuttoMerctoWeb), Antonio Conte’s attempts to persuade Alessandro Bastoni to join Tottenham have had ‘no effect’ on the player.

Bastoni is reportedly Tottenham’s number one target for the left centre-back role, with the North Londoners said to be willing to meet Inter Milan’s asking price as well as the defender’s wage demands (Alasdair Gold on YouTube – starting at 15:16).

However, The Evening Standard reported earlier this week that the 23-year-old is reluctant to swap the San Siro for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The report added, however, that Inter are keen on snapping up Torino’s Gleison Bremer and might have to cash in on Bastoni to balance the books.

If Corriere dello Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Conte has spoken to Bastoni to try to persuade the defender to reunite with him at Spurs.

However, the Spurs boss’ words have allegedly not had the desired effect, with the centre-back having ‘temporarily closed the door’ to Tottenham.

The report adds that the Italy international is not attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

It is explained that while Inter do have to find a player to sell this summer to balance their books, they must ‘deal with the will’ of Bastoni.

If this is true, one would expect Fabio Paratici to move on to other targets for the left centre-back role. Bastoni’s unwillingness to join might be behind the Lilywhites’ rumoured talks with Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet over the past few days ( Spanish outlet CCMA).
