Report: Contrasting claim Spurs are ready to call off pursuit after player fails to return calls

The Guardian have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to call off their pursuit of Clement Lenglet as the Barcelona star has not been returning the club’s phone calls.

The print edition of Sport – 27/06/22 (via Sport Witness) revealed on Monday that while Spurs were one of the clubs leading the race to sign Lenglet, with the North London club said to be keen on a loan deal.

This was followed up by a report in Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday, stating that despite Barca and Tottenham being close to an agreement, the Frenchman had not given his approval regarding a move to the Premier League club.

The report stated that Spurs had issued an ultimatum to Lenglet and informed the defender that he has to make a decision by the end of this week.

The Guardian have now revealed that the Barca star is on holiday and has not been returning Tottenham’s calls.

The report adds that Lenglet does not seem as enthused by the prospect of joining Spurs as Conte’s men would like, and the club are now ready to pull the plug on their pursuit of the former Sevilla man.

However, Matteo Moretto has reported that Lenglet is now ‘increasingly open’ to joining Tottenham, while Marca have claimed that he has agreed to a move and is now one step away.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Lenglet would be an upgrade over Ben Davies in the left centre-back role, and I believe the Frenchman will struggle to cope with the physicality of the Premier League. With Gvardiol and Bastoni now looking set to stay at their respective clubs, I would rather see us sign Pau Torres than the Barca star.
