Report: Council receive objection from Tottenham Hotspur over development plans

The Haringey Community Press have revealed that the decision on whether to approve a major regeneration scheme in Tottenham has been postponed in light of an objection from Spurs.

The scheme is planned for the sites opposite to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and entails knocking down some of the existing buildings to make way for up to 2929 new homes in the area, out of which 564 homes would be for council rent.

The report reveals the residents on the estate narrowly gave their backing to the redevelopment proposals during a ballot held last year while senior councillors also approved the scheme.

However, during the committee meeting on Thursday, chair Sarah Williams revealed the council had received “several late objections” to the redevelopment plans.

It is explained that the objections include letters from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club raising concerns over the impact of the scheme on the area’s heritage, the safety of crowds moving through the development on their way to and from the club’s stadium, and more.

In light of the concerns voiced, a decision on the scheme is now not expected to be made until June.

One would hope that all the legitimate concerns from the local residents and Spurs would be ironed out and that the redevelopment plan goes ahead as planned as it could prove beneficial for the local community.
