Report: Crystal Palace jump queue for heavily-linked Spurs target

Crystal Palace have moved to the front of the queue for Lyon defender Joachim Andersen, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

Andersen has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham for a number of weeks, with The Express claiming that he had been ‘widely tipped’ to mak the move to North London.

The Denmark international impressed in the Premier League this season while on loan at Fulham and has since returned to France following the Cottagers’ relegation back to the Championship.

The 25-year-old originally joined Lyon in a deal worth up to £25m from Sampdoria in 2019 but struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in Ligue 1, starting just 17 games (transfermarkt).

Andersen was said to have been aware of Tottenham’s interest (The Sun) but it is rumoured to have cooled following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo (L’Equipe / SportWitness).

Spurs have instead recently been linked with other central defensive options including Atalanta’s (Sky Sports) and Jules Kounde of Sevilla (Football.London).

It appears that whoever was on Steve Hitchen’s shopping list earlier this year may have been amended following the arrivals of Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Andersen had a decent season in a struggling Fulham side, however, the likes of Romero and Kounde are a class above the Dane. Hopefully, if Spurs are setting their sights on other targets, they aren’t left empty-handed while Andersen ends up at another Premier League side.
