Report: Striker is in a tricky spot – Spurs can’t loan him out to another club

Tottenham Hotspur do have the option to recall Dane Scarlett from his loan spell at Ipswich Town in January, but he would not be allowed to play for another club this season.

Of all the young and exciting talent at Tottenham, Dane Scarlett is among the most promising of them all. With a handful of first-team appearances, and a first senior goal over the summer – albeit in a friendly – the striker found himself at something of a crossroads in his fledgling career.

Scarlett could have spent the season on the peripheries of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, or he could go out on loan and get some first-team experience. The latter was the option taken, with Scarlett joining Championship new boys Ipswich, but it hasn’t quite worked out for the 19-year-old so far.

Ipswich Town are flying in the Championship at the moment and currently find themselves in second place. As a result, Scarlett has found opportunities hard to come by and has just 146 minutes under his belt across 11 substitute appearances (Transfermarkt).

What happens if Spurs recall Scarlett?

In a piece from Football.London looking at the Spurs players currently on loan at other clubs, it is suggested that Scarlett “could technically be recalled” by the North London side in January. But, there is an issue with that.

Due to Scarlett turning out for the Lilywhites in the Carabao Cup this season, if he was to return to Spurs he would not be able to join another club. That means, recalling Scarlett may only be the solution if the youngster can be “better served” by being a part of Postecoglou’s squad.

It is said that Scarlett “may just have to bide his time” at Ipswich, as “the pathway” at Spurs right now is just as crowded.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really feel for Scarlett right now, and just wish he could join a different club. That said, with the amount of time he has spent on the field for Ipswich, he may as well be back at Spurs, to be honest.
