Report: Daniel Levy holding up £25.8m transfer over finer details of deal

Steven Bergwijn’s move to Ajax is currently being held up, according to Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf.

The report claims that Tottenham and managing director of football Fabio Paratici have agreed on a €30million (£25.8million) transfer fee for Ajax to sign the winger, however, Daniel Levy is currently not satisfied with the finer details of the agreement.

The Spurs chairman is reportedly not in agreement with the proposed structure of the number of instalments in which Ajax will pay the fee, along with the percentage which the north Londoners will receive if the Eredivisie champions decide to sell the 24-year-old in the future.

Bergwijn arrived at Tottenham from PSV in January 2020 but despite an impressive debut against Manchester City, has failed to hold down a regular first-team place and currently finds himself behind the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevki in Antonio Conte’s attacking pecking order.

The Dutch international is said to have chosen a move to Ajax ahead of interest from Manchester United and Everton who would have been ready to pay £35million to sign him.

I’d expect the deal to go through before the weekend with Spurs set to jet off to South Korea on Saturday.

Bergwijn needs to play regular first-team football if he wants to secure his place in the Dutch squad for this winter’s World Cup, having been overlooked for the final selection in last year’s Euro 2020.
