Report: Daniel Levy plans to ‘command a fee’ for player in January window

The Daily Mirror have revealed that Daniel Levy wants to offload Eric Dier in the January transfer window instead of losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Dier made his first two appearances of the season against Chelsea and Wolves, owing to the injury to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s sending-off against the Blues.

While the England international marshalled the backline impressively in the London derby, he got mixed reviews for his performance at Molineux, with some pundits critical of him for switching off for Mario Lemina’s 97th-minute winner (BBC Sport).

The 29-year-old’s days at the North London club look numbered, with his current deal running out next summer.

Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel two weeks ago that the defender prefers to leave as a free agent so that he has more options to choose from.

Daniel Levy does not want Eric Dier to leave for free

However, The Mirror have now claimed that Levy ‘plans to command a fee’ for Dier when the transfer window opens in January even though the player himself is eyeing a summer exit.

The report backs up what has already been suggested by other outlets over the last few weeks by stating that Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with the centre-back at Roma while Sporting Lisbon have also shown interest in re-signing the Spurs man.

One can understand why Dier would want to leave as a free agent next summer as not only would have a lot more options to choose from but he would also be able to land a lucrative contract at his next club.

Unless a very interesting opportunity opens up for the 29-year-old in January, I see him running his contract down.
