Report: Daniel Levy threatened Bale before selling him to Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur will surely be looking to dip into the transfer market this summer, despite going on a 15-month hiatus from signing new players.

The last player Tottenham acquired was Lucas Moura from PSG back in January 2018, but could their next signing be an old face?

Recent reports have linked Spurs with a move for ex-super-star Gareth Bale, as things are rumoured to be over for him at Real Madrid (Sun).

Bale made the switch from North London to Spain almost six years ago (BBC), but there could be some bad blood between him and Daniel Levy if reports are to be believed.

Marca claim that Levy threatened to keep Bale in the reserves before selling him to Madrid for £85m. The report says Bale was willing to go on strike to force through the move, and told Levy he wanted out (Quoted by the Express).

All we know for sure is that Bale ended up leaving the capital, but could he be on the way back?

Spurs Web Opinion:

Whether this story is true or not, we will never know, but Levy did well getting a world record fee for Bale, whatever the case. It remains to be seen whether Bale will ever return to North London, but if he does, it will be on Levy’s terms in a bargain deal. If not, he simply won’t be signed. Tottenham will prioritise up-and-coming young talents rather than nostalgic moves for ex-players.
