Report: Daniel Levy will only loan player if an obligation-to-buy clause is included

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Daniel Levy has no interest in loaning out Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and that the Dane is not close to an exit from Tottenham as things stand.

Even ahead of the opening of the transfer window, it was made clear by several sources that Hojbjerg, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier were surplus to requirements for Ange Postecoglou and that all three players had been told to find new clubs (Football Insider).

However, while Dier and Lloris have completed switches to Bayern Munich and Los Angeles FC respectively, the former Southampton man appears no closer to an exit as we approach the final week of the window.

Fabrizio Romano told Kick last week that the 28-year-old might not leave until the final days of the window as a domino of midfield players start to switch clubs across Europe.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not close to Spurs exit

Plettenberg has now confirmed that Tottenham are not in advanced talks with any club over the sale of Hojbjerg, with the journalist making it clear that Levy would want an obligation-to-buy clause added to any loan deal for the player.

The journalist told Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre about the Spurs star: “Our understanding is that he wants to play regularly and be a regular starter but it’s very difficult under Postecoglou right now for him at Spurs.

“There is nothing close, there is nothing advanced but we’re hearing Daniel Levy doesn’t want to give him away with an option to buy, he wants to have an obligation to buy or a permanent deal. Levy wants to see some money for Hojbjerg.”

I suspect Postecoglou would have made it clear that he wants a replacement through the door first before Hojbjerg is given the green light to leave. So, with Tottenham potentially plotting a late move for Conor Gallagher, we might not see the Dane’s future resolved until the dying stages of the window.
