Report: Danny Rose ‘close’ to completing transfer away from the Premier League

According to PA news agency (via RTE), Danny Rose is close to completing a surprise transfer to Italian side, Genoa.

The 30-year-old gave a decent account of himself during his loan spell at Newcastle last season but played no part in Spurs’ pre-season preparations on his return to the club.

Reports over recent weeks revealed that Tottenham were looking to find buyers for Rose (Football.London) and it now has now been revealed that the left-back is primed to finalise a transfer to Genoa ahead of the new season.

Rolando Maran’s side finished just above the relegation zone in Serie A last season and reportedly saw off competition from rivals Cagliari to snap up the Spurs star.

The report adds that there is no confirmation whether it is to be a loan move or a permanent transfer but Rose looks set to be playing his football at Liguria next season.

If there is truth to these reports, then this is quite a strange move for Rose, particularly given that he has always spoken about his desire to go back North. Perhaps it was a case of no Premier League club really showing sufficient interest. However, one would have still thought that he would have been able to go to a better team than Genoa, who might well be involved in another relegation scrap next season.
