Report: Defender does not want Spurs move despite club agreeing fee

Marca have now claimed that Emerson Royal does not wish to leave Barcelona despite the Catalan club seriously considering Tottenham’s offer for the right-back.

Tottenham allegedly had their opening offer for Emerson rejected by Barcelona and have returned with a second bid for the Brazilian.

Multiple sources (including the likes of Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio) have claimed the two clubs are now close to reaching an agreement on a transfer fee.

Sport have even asserted that the deal could be officially announced within the next few hours.

However, if Marca’s latest report is to be believed, Barca still face a battle to convince Emerson to join Spurs.

The report explains the Catalan giants are tempted by Tottenham’s €25m (£21.4m) offer for the 22-year-old, with the club viewing it as ‘a very good opportunity’ to raise funds and slightly improve their perilous financial situation.

However, Emerson, who sealed a move to Barcelona earlier this summer, is said to be intent on staying at the Catalan club.

The right-back is thought to believe that he would have a part to play under Ronald Koeman this season and would thus have to be convinced to depart.

If Barcelona plan on accepting Tottenham’s offer, one would think that they would be able to persuade Emerson to leave by letting him know that he is not part of Ronald Koeman’s plans.
