Report: Defender in advanced talks over permanent Spurs exit

Football Insider have revealed that Swindon Town are in advanced talks with Tottenham over a permanent deal for defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

Fagan-Walcott was thought of highly while coming through the age group ranks at Spurs and has represented England at Under-17s and Under-16s levels.

The centre-back was handed his senior debut for Spurs back in 2020, aged just 18, during the club’s Champions League defeat away to RB Leipzig, and that has been his only first-team appearance to date.

The 20-year-old had an ill-fated temporary spell at Dundee United in January 2021, where he suffered a season-ending injury after making just two appearances for the Scottish club.

Fagan-Walcott has been a mainstay in Tottenham’s Under-21 side this season, having made 13 appearances so far in Premier League 2 (Transfermarkt).

Football Insider have revealed that Spurs are willing to offload the young defender amidst interest from Swindon. The League Two club signed another Spurs academy product in the form of Marcel Lavinier back in the summer window.

Many had high hopes for Fagan-Walcott until a couple of years ago, which is encapsulated by the fact that Mourinho handed him his senior debut just months after arriving at the club. However, the 20-year-old’s development has stalled over the last two years and he perhaps has not been the same player since suffering a hamstring injury in 2021.
