Report: Defender linked with Spurs said to be ready to take the next step

Tottenham Hotspur may have received a boost to their hopes of landing Robin Koch after Kicker reports that the defender is keen to leave Freiburg this summer.

Koch has had an outstanding season at the back for the Bundesliga club this campaign and his performances have reportedly caught the attention of several sides, including Spurs.

Kicker claimed that Freiburg have decided to cash in on the versatile defender this summer after he refused to sign a new contract.

The 24-year-old has a year to run on his contract at the Schwarzwald-Stadion and it is claimed that the Bundesliga side do not want to risk losing him for free next summer.

Tottenham are reportedly competing with AC Milan and Benfica for the German international’s signature.

Koch might not sound as attractive as some of the high-profile names we have been linked with but he could potentially be a solid acquisition. He looks to have the technical qualities as well as the mental attributes needed to develop into a top defender. Having shone in the Bundesliga, he would be a much less-riskier investment that someone like Kim-Min-Jae.
