Report: Defender linked with Spurs yet to make decision on his future

According to a report in Daily Mail, Manchester United’s Chris Smalling is yet to make a decision on his future with clubs including Spurs said to be keen on signing him in the summer.

Smalling is enjoying an impressive season on loan at AS Roma having made 28 appearances and scoring two goals in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Corriere Dello Sport via The Express claimed last month that his performances at the Stadio Olympico have caught the attention of both Spurs and Everton.

Arsenal are also reportedly keen on signing the experienced defender in the summer (Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness).

The three Premier League clubs are said to be battling it out with Roma for the 30-year-old’s services, with the Serie A giants also reportedly trying to complete a permanent deal for the former Fulham defender (Calciomercato).

The Daily Mail have reported that the United central defender will not make a decision on his future until the current season comes to an end.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would personally be extremely underwhelmed with this signing as I don’t think Smalling will improve our backline. He has a mistake or two in him and will be a temporary stop-gap than a long-term solution. I would rather hand Vertonghen a one-year extension than bring Smalling to North London.
