Report: Defender prefers Spurs move over West Ham

According to a report by The Times, Joe Rodon prefers a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer despite attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

Spurs were unable to bring a central defender in before Monday’s transfer deadline after they reportedly saw deals for both Milan Skriniar and Antonio Riudger collapse in the final days of the window.

However, reports indicate that the North Londoners have now set their sights on Rodon, with Premier League clubs allowed to trade with EFL clubs until October 16 (Alasdair Gold).

The Swansea City man has earned some rave reviews for his performances for club and country over recent years, not least from Ben Davies, who insisted that he is ready to make the step up to a club like Spurs.

The Times claims that the Welsh international prefers to complete a move to Spurs despite also attracting ‘keen interest’ from both West Ham United and Burnley.

However, the report does reveal that Spurs and Swansea are still quite far apart in their valuations of the defender, with the Lilywhites willing to pay £7million, while the Championship outfit are said to be demanding closer to £18milliom.

Given the rumoured difference in valuations of both teams, it does sound like this deal could well drag on until October 16. One would have thought that a younger player like Rodon would be tempted to go to a lower to midtable club like West Ham as he might fear not getting enough opportunities at Spurs. Perhaps Ben Davies and Gareth Bale had a word or two with him about the club to convince him to come to North London.
