Report: Defender previously linked to Spurs ‘seeks clarification’ on future

ESPN have reported that Eric Bailey, who was previously reported to be on Tottenham’s radar, is concerned about a potential lack of game time at Manchester United next season.

It has emerged over the last week that Atalanta’s Cristian Romero is Fabio Paratici’s number one centre-back target and the North London club are thought to be in advanced negotiations for the Argentine international.

If Spurs cannot get a deal for the 23-year-old over the line, reports indicate that they could move for one of Nikola Milenkovic, Kurt Zouma or Takehiro Tomiyasu instead.

Bailey’s name was also previously rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar, with Duncan Castles claiming on the Transfer Window Podcast in April that the Lilywhites were keen on snapping up the Ivory Coast international.

The Daily Express reported at the start of this month that Spurs could ask for Bailey to be included in any deal for Harry Winks amidst United’s interest in the Tottenham midfielder.

ESPN now reveal that the United centre-back is concerned that he might have fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Raphael Varane at Old Trafford.

It is said that the 27-year-old is currently seeking clarification about his future at the club.

Even if Bailey becomes available, there are better and cheaper options out there. The fact that the Ivorian only signed a new deal in April means United will likely ask for a significant fee if they plan to cash in on the 27-year-old.
