Report: Defender rumoured to on Fabio Paratici’s radar signs new contract

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham, Wolfsburg have announced that rumoured Spurs target, Maxence Lacroix, has signed a new deal with the club.

Tottenham strengthened their backline with the additions of Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal this summer while Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier departed the club.

Lacroix was another central defender who was said to be on the North London club’s radar during the summer transfer window.

Reports from Germany had suggested that Spurs were competing with RB Leipzig for the 21-year-old, who was reportedly valued at £25.7m (€30m).

Eurosport also reported at the time that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, had made an enquiry about the Wolfsburg man but the youngster ended up staying at the Bundesliga club.

Paratici might now have to abandon his pursuit of the France U20 international, with Wolfsburg confirming that Lacroix has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure if Lacroix was at the top of Paratici’s wish list or if the Frenchman was one of the backup options in case a deal for Romero could not be completed. Now that the 21-year-old has signed a new contract, Wolfsburg will now likely demand significantly more than the £25m they allegedly wanted for him this summer. So, Spurs will likely abandon their pursuit of the Wolfsburg man.
