Report: Spurs signed player in 2022 but may look to sell him already this summer

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to cash in on Djed Spence this summer, with the right-back not thought to be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

Spence joined Genoa on loan in January after Leeds prematurely ended his loan spell at Elland Road, with the Italian club having the option to sign the right-back permanently for £8.5m this summer.

The youngster has been used as a right wing-back and as a left-wing back by the Serie A side but he has not been a regular in Alberto Gilardino’s starting eleven, having made just nine appearances for the club so far (Transfermarkt).

However, last week, Caught Offside claimed that Genoa wish to sign the right-back permanently and that they are in talks with Tottenham regarding the same.

Spurs willing to sell Djed Spence permanently

Football Insider have claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are ready to offload Spence permanently this summer, whether it is to Genoa or elsewhere.

The report says that the 23-year-old is one of several players who would be moved on this summer to make space for new signings.

The publication suggests that the Lilywhites have already signalled to clubs that they are ready to listen to offers for the player they signed from Middlesborough in 2022.

Spurs Web Opinion

This information would not come as a surprise to Tottenham fans. The fact that Postecoglou decided to offload Spence to Leeds last summer soon after he walked through the door suggested that the Australian did not see the right-back as a good fit for the project he was building at N17.
