Report: Defender’s reaction on Sunday could encourage Spurs pursuit

CMW.it have claimed that Alessandro Bastoni’s angry reaction to being substituted in Inter Milan’s 3-1 loss against Udinese on Sunday, could encourage Tottenham to rekindle their interest in the centre-back.

Bastoni was reportedly Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role this summer (Football.London) but the Italy international’s agent declared that his client wanted to remain at the San Siro (Football Italia), with Spurs signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona instead.

On Sunday, the Inter defender was taken off after 31 minutes by Simone Inzaghi, with the game poised at 1-1 at the time.

Bastoni was not happy at being withdrawn so early into the game, with the centre-back seen venting his frustration on the bench at the Dacia Arena.

CMW.it claim that the Italy international’s reaction risks a potential fall-out with Inzaghi, and the report suggests that Spurs might have been watching the situation closely.

The report adds that the North London club could be encouraged to try again for Bastoni in the upcoming transfer windows, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on reuniting with the defender.

However, CMW.it add that as things stand, it will take an offer of over €60m (£52.4m) to prize away the centre-back from the San Siro.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that if Tottenham could have signed Bastoni for the aforementioned price this summer, they would have been more than happy to pay the fee as the 23-year-old seemed to be Conte’s top target.

However, it appeared as if the player did not want to leave Inter, which is why Spurs walked away from the deal. Should Bastoni change his mind, one would expect the North London club to vie for his signature next summer.
