Report: Departed Spurs star has now become manager’s ‘secret weapon’ 

A report from Estadio Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness) has showered praise on Erik Lamela for the brilliant start he has made to life at Sevilla.

Lamela’s eight-year association with Tottenham ended in the summer when he joined Sevilla as a part of the deal that saw Bryan Gil arrive at Spurs. 

The Argentine was part of Tottenham’s memorable rise during the Mauricio Pochettino era but unfortunately has no trophies to show for his eight seasons at the club.

Despite making over 250 appearances for Spurs, the attacking midfielder never quite managed to fulfil his potential during his time in North London as he struggled for a consistent run in the starting eleven.

However, Lamela has certainly hit the ground running in Seville, having scored thrice in three La Liga games for Julen Lopetegui’s side so far.

Estadio Deportivo have now waxed lyrical about the former Spurs midfielder on the back of his recent performances, claiming he has become Lopetegui’s ‘secret weapon’ when games get a bit tight.

The report claims that the 29-year-old has already won over the Sevilla faithful owing to the start he has made to his time in Spain.

The outlet goes on to add that Lamela has shown “a spectacular display of technical resources, overflow, elegance in driving, a plastic stride and, what is more important, an immediate adaptation, which is what clubs usually value the most.”

Lamela was never going to have trouble winning the Sevilla fans over as one cannot help but love him for his work rate and commitment to the cause. 

While his goalscoring run might not last, he will certainly be a useful asset for Lopetegui’s side for the next couple of years. He is a terrific impact substitute to have as he always impacts games when he comes on.
