Report describes rumour of Spurs bid for La Liga defender as ‘fake’

Reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Villarreal defender Pau Torres have been labelled as ‘fake’ by Sport Witness.

The report claims that sources close to the player have informed a journalist from the online publication that ‘there’s nothing’ in the speculation suggesting that the 24-year-old could be on his way to North London ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

Spanish news outlet Super Deporte carried a report claiming Spurs had tabled a €45m (£38.2m) bid with the player having turned dow the prospect of joining Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, despite the Yellow Submarine having accepted the offer.

It would seem unlikely that Torres would want to part company with Torres considering there is only around a fortnight of the transfer window left to run.

It is far more likely that Spurs are pursuing a deal for the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu as a potential partner for Cristian Romero, given how heavily he has been linked with a move over the past couple of months.
