Report details defensive shakeup Jose Mourinho is planning at Spurs

The Daily Mirror have have claimed Jose Mourinho has prioritised rebuilding the Tottenham Hotspur backline, which could be set to see wholesale changes ahead of next season.

With Jan Vertonghen having already left the club, the report claims that Kyle Walker-Peters will be next out of the door, with the right-back said to be on his way to Southampton.

It is revealed that the North Londoners are also ready to sell Serge Aurier ahead of next season with AC Milan and Monaco said to be battling it out to sign the Ivorian international.

The report asserts that Jose Mourinho wants two defensive additions this summer – a centre-back and a right-back.

It is claimed that Thomas Meunier was the club’s main right-back target before he agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

Interestingly, the report does not suggest that Spurs are after a left-back, which ties in with The Guardian’s earlier claim that Mourinho plans on making Dennis Cirkin the main understudy to Ben Davies next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can understand why Mourinho is not desperate for a new left-back, with Davies, Sessegnon, Tanganga and potentially Cirkin at his disposal. However, if we are to sell both Aurier and Walker-Peters, we would need to sign two right-backs given the number of games we will be involved in next season.
