Report: Borussia Dortmund enter race for midfielder linked with Spurs

German publication Sport Bild (as relayed by Inside Futbol) have revealed that Borussia Dortmund could challenge Tottenham for Marcel Sabitzer this summer.

Sabitzer has been a long-term target for Tottenham, having been linked with a move to the club during the January transfer window.

It was reported back in April that Tottenham were already laying the groundwork for a summer deal for Sabitzer and Alasdair Gold backed the North Londoners to compete for the Austrian international’s signature.

However, some sources from Germany had previously also backed Spurs’ North London rivals, Arsenal, to vie for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Sport Bild now reveal that Dortmund are set to enter the race for Sabitzer, having identified the Leipzig star as the man to bolster their midfield.

The report reveals that the Bundesliga club are monitoring the former Rapid Wein man’s situation and are weighing up an offer to take him to Westfalenstadion.

It is also asserted that Leipzig are ready to sell Sabitzer for less than €20m (£17.2m) since he only has 12 months left to run on his contract at the Red Bull Arena.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Nuno and Paratici have made up their mind to cash in on Alli and sign a replacement for the England international, they could certainly do a lot worse than Sabitzer. The fact that he is available on a cut-price deal would make it a no-brainer for Spurs.

However, Nuno has not really tended to play with a number ten in his previous clubs and so it would be a little surprising if the Lilywhites followed through with their interest in the Leipzig star.
