Report: Dortmund set to beat Spurs to midfielder

Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of sealing the signing of Juventus midfielder Emre Can ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

Sky Germany claim that it is only a matter of time before Can completes his move from Turin to Signal Iduna Park.

The (Daily Mail) reported earlier this month that the former Liverpool midfielder was offered to Tottenham.

The 26-year-old has been restricted to just eight appearances in the Serie A for the Italian champions this season (transfermarkt) and is reportedly surplus to requirements for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Meanwhile, The Sun claimed that Spurs were locked in a battle with their North London rivals Arsenal to sign the German international while Manchester United were also said to be interested in landing the midfielder.

However, if the latest report by Sky Germany is to be believed, Dortmund seem to have won the race for Can ahead of the a clutch of Premier League clubs after resuming negotiations with Juventus on Monday.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Can’s qualities do fit the profile Mourinho usually likes, it is clear that we are fairly well stocked in midfield. With the arrival of Gedson Fernandes, we have more than enough options to cope until the end of the season. It is clear that signing a number 9 before the transfer window closes should be Tottenham’s priority.
