Report: ‘Doubts growing internally’ about club’s pursuit of Tottenham star

The print edition of Sport BILD (04/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that there are ‘doubts growing internally’ at Bayern Munich regarding whether Harry Kane would be open to a move to the club.

Kane is at the peak of his powers at the moment, with the striker on course to have the most productive season of his career so far, with 15 goals to his name in 18 Premier League matches in 2022/23 (Transfermarkt).

The striker is just two away from overtaking Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s top scorer (Reuters) and he will have Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 in his sights, with the Spurs man currently just 62 behind the Newcastle legend.

SportBild have now explained that Bayern are looking to sign a centre-forward next summer to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski, with Kane said to be on the Bundesliga giants’ radar.

However, it is explained that there are ‘doubts’ at the German club regarding whether the Tottenham man would be open to moving to the Bundesliga next summer, and those doubts are said to be ‘growing’.

The publication adds that Eric Maxim Chupo-Moting’s impressive form over recent months has further cast doubt on Bayer’s pursuit of Kane.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker is said to be open to extending his contract at the Allianz Arena but does not want a ‘renowned competitor’ next to him, which perhaps suggests that he could leave Bavaria if Kane arrives through the door.

Whether or not Kane puts pen to paper on a new contract at Spurs, it is difficult to see the striker leaving the Premier League at this stage of his career. There is no doubt that he will have Shearer’s record in his sights, now that he can potentially clinch the record in around three more seasons.
