Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Dusan Vlahovic was not included in Fiorentina’s matchday squad for their clash against Cagliari on Sunday.
Vlahovic is having an outstanding campaign for Fiorentina and is currently sitting joint top in the race for the Serie A golden boot, with seventeen strikes to his name so far (BBC).
However, the centre-forward did not make the trip to Cagliari on Sunday as Viola handed new signing Krzysztof Piatek his debut and came away with a hard found 1-1 draw from the Sardegna Arena.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonio Conte is thought to be intent on bringing the Serbian to Tottenham, while Arsenal are also said to be keen on snapping up the 21-year-old before the end of the month (Football.London).
Fiorentina’s Chief Executive Officer Joe Barone admitted last week that there has been interest from English clubs in Vlahovic this month (La Nazione).
Amidst the speculation over his future, the striker being left out of the Fiorentina’s squad did raise some suspicions. However, according to Sky Italia, Fiorentina confirmed that two of their players had tested positive for Covid-19.
The Serie A club did not reveal the identities of the players in question but the news does raise the possibility that Vlahovic’s exclusion was due to a positive test rather than being transfer related.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is pretty evident that Vlahvoic’s exclusion from Fiorentina’s matchday squad is not transfer related as there have not been any reports over the last week suggesting that he is close to departing the Serie A club.
In fact, Fiorentina have been clear there have been no updates from Vlahovic’s agent about the striker’s transfer plans (Fabrizio Romano). So, the Serbian’s absence was likely Covid related.
