Report: Dutch manager has emerged as a top contender for the Spurs job

The Times have now revealed that Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is one of Tottenham’s top candidates to replace Antonio Conte.

Reports over the last week have indicated that Tottenham are looking for a young, up-and-coming manager who wants to build a long-term project in North London (beIN SPORTS).

One can understand why the Spurs hierarchy might now be leaning in that direction, given how the Jose Mourinho and Conte experiments have backfired.

The likes of Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino have all been mooted as targets over the last couple of weeks (The Athletic).

However, since Bayern Munich’s decision to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann a couple of days ago, multiple publications have indicated that the German has now shot to the top of Spurs’ wishlist.

The Lilywhites are thought to have tried to appoint the 35-year-old back in 2021 before he moved to the Bavarian giants (Telegraph).

The Times have now thrown another name into the hat in the form of Slot, who has done an exceptional job since taking over at Feyenoord back in 2021.

The Rotterdam-based club currently sit six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie league table and the 42-year-old boasts of an astonishing win percentage of 62.22 since taking over at De Kuip.

I was actually surprised that Arne Slot’s name had not been mentioned until now, given the astounding success he has had at Feyenoord on a limited budget.

Erik Ten Hag’s relative success at Man Utd might perhaps convince the Spurs hierarchy that coaching talent from the Eredivisie can succeed in the Premier League.
