Report: English club are actively working on a deal to sign Tottenham defender

Football Insider have claimed that Leeds United have now started working on a deal to sign Joe Rodon permanently from Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodon, whose career had been floundering since his switch to Spurs in 2020, has now rediscovered his mojo since his loan switch to Leeds last summer, having arguably been the best centre-back on show in the Championship so far this season.

However, the on-loan Spurs man and his teammates have a lot of work to do if they are to help the club bounce straight back to the top flight, with Daniel Farke’s men currently sitting seven points off an automatic promotion spot.

Leeds working on a deal for Tottenham’s Joe Rodon

Football Insider have suggested that Leeds are wasting no time and have already started working to land Rodon permanently.

The report says that the Elland Road hierarchy want to get a deal done as soon as possible as they fear that the Welshman’s price could skyrocket if he continues to excel at the club.

In fact, the outlet alleges that there is expected to be quite a bit of interest in Rodon’s services and that the defender could even fetch a fee of around £20m next summer, which was significantly more than what Tottenham were expecting just a few months ago.

Football Insider add that despite Leeds’ best efforts, they have heard from a well-placed source that a permanent deal for the 26-year-old is ‘unlikely’ to go through this window.

Rodon might not be in a hurry to sign for Leeds and may prefer to wait until the end of the season to see if they win promotion.

There is no doubt that a few Premier League clubs will come forward to express interest in the Wales international next summer if he continues playing as well as he currently is.
