Report: English club bid £500k for player who only left Spurs last summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham academy graduate Romaine Mundle could be back in English football just six months on from his move from Spurs to Standard Liege.

Mundle, who had come through the age group ranks at Tottenham, had been one of the standout players for the club’s Under-21s last season, finishing the campaign with eight goals and six assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The pacy winger, who can operate in either flank, decided to leave Hotspur Way when his contract ran out last June and signed for Standard Liege.

The 20-year-old has shown some glimpses of his quality for the Belgian side this season, having made six senior appearances for the club this season.

Romaine Mundle is a wanted man in the Championship

Romano has now revealed that a whole host of Championship sides are now interested in offering the former Spurs man a route back to English football.

He revealed that Swansea City, Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle are among the clubs to register an interest in Mundle, with the Swans even allegedly seeing their opening offer turned down by Standard Liege.

Lyall Thomas claims this first bid was worth around £500k and Swansea are now considering submitting a second offer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Mundle’s main objective in leaving Spurs would have been to get some senior football under his belt and catch the attention of some English sides, which has transpired.

However, looking back at the way Postecoglou has backed younger talent at Tottenham, the 20-year-old might perhaps look back and wonder if he missed a trick by not signing a new contract at Hotspur Way.
