Report: English starlet Spurs were looking at signs contract with PL club

Tottenham have suffered a blow in their rumoured pursuit of midfield starlet Joshua Duffus, with TEAMtalk now reporting that the youngster has agreed his first professional contract with Brighton.

Duffus, who can play as an attacking midfielder or off either wing,  joined Brighton from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 and impressed with his displays in the Under-18 Premier League last season, with four goals and five assists to his name in 25 appearances.

The teenager has registered another two-goal contribution in two matches this season and has also made his debut in Premier League 2 for the Seagulls (Transfermarkt).

TEAMtalk reveal that Duffus’ displays in youth football caught the attention of several top-flight clubs, with the likes of Spurs, Aston Villa and Fulham all showing interest in snapping up the youngster.

However, the report explains that Brighton have successfully managed to fend off interest from the aforementioned clubs, with the midfielder now said to have signed his first professional contract at the Amex Stadium.

It is asserted that the Seagulls are set to officially confirm the contract extension over the coming weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion

The challenge that the likes of Spurs will have in attracting the best young prospects to their academy, is the fact that the pathway to the first team is much harder at the North London club than it is at a club like Brighton.

That is especially true in Conte’s regime, with the Italian and his coaching staff seemingly reluctant to hand opportunities to players who are unproven at the top level.
