Report: Eredivisie side open talks about signing young Tottenham defender

According to Football Insider, AZ Alkmaar have opened talks over a potential deal for Tottenham defender, Marques Muir this month.

The central defender is a key part of Tottenham’s Under-18 side, having featured eight times for Matt Taylor’s team so far this season.

The Lambeth-born youngster has been in the Spurs academy since he was eight and has risen through the youth team ranks over the years.

Football Insider report that the defender only has six months left to run on his scholarship contract at Spurs and Alkmaar are looking to snap him up.

It is revealed that the Dutch club are confident of completing a deal for the 18-year-old before the end of the month.

The report claims that Muir will not join up with the Eredivisie side until next season and would be loaned out for the second half of the campaign.

Discussions between the two clubs are said to be on-going and Tottenham will be owed compensation if Alkmaar can get the youngster to sign on the dotted line before the end of the month.

We have lost quite a few of our young academy talents to foreign clubs over recent years, which is concerning. However, other English clubs are also in the same boat as more and more youngsters are now willing to go abroad as they realise it will be easier to get opportunities in Germany, Holland, France and Portugal than it is in England.
