The Athletic have claimed on their live transfer blog that Eric Dier is now hoping to leave Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
Dier is evidently not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, having failed to make a single matchday squad so far this season and it has been widely reported over the last week that Tottenham are looking to offload him (90 min).
Earlier today, Football Insider revealed that Vincent Kompany was keen on strengthening Burnley’s backline and had identified the Spurs star as his top target.
In fact, the publication claimed that the Clarets had even made a loan offer for the 29-year-old, which has been sent back by Spurs.
Dier now wants to leave Tottenham in next 48 hours
The Athletic have now backed up the information regarding Burnley’s failed offer, explaining that Tottenham would only loan out the England international if he signed a contract extension since he has just one year left on his deal.
The outlet also adds that while Dier’s initial preference was to stay at Spurs and fight for his place, the defender is now hoping that a resolution can be found over his future before the window slams shut.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham are successful in offloading all three of Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga (which the club are evidently trying to do), then we would need to sign two central defenders before tomorrow night’s deadline as Postecoglou would be left short of options at the back.
