Report: Erik ten Hag not out of contention for Spurs job despite new contract

The Athletic have now reported that Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag, is not yet out of contention for the Spurs head coach role despite the fact his contract was extended.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that ten Hag did not turn down the Tottenham job before his one-year extension with Ajax was announced.

The same journalist also reported that Tottenham had scheduled a meeting with ten Hag to discuss the vacant head coach role in North London.

Romano claimed that Spurs and the Ajax boss held talks over a period of 48 hours before the Lilywhites decided to take a step back and pursue other targets when they found out that the Dutch club were about to extend ten Hag’s contract.

It is said that ten Hag was never offered the job but Spurs merely decided to move on.

The Athletic claim that Spurs are looking to be efficient and discreet with their search, adding that some coaches and agents have used potential interest from the club as a way to make more money.

The report finally claims that: ‘Even Erik ten Hag signing a new contract at Ajax does not necessarily rule him out of contention.’
