Report: Erik ten Hag wants to make out-of-favour Spurs man his first signing at Man Utd

The Daily Mail have revealed that Erik ten Hag wants to make Steven Bergwijn his first signing as Manchester United boss.

Ten Hag is expected to replace Ralf Ragnick as United’s head coach, with an official announcement expected as early as next week (Metro).

The Mail have now claimed that the Dutch manager wants to snap up Bergwijn from Spurs, having tried in vain to take the winger to Ajax in January.

The 24-year-old has fallen even further down Antonio Conte’s pecking order since the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski, with the Swede making himself undroppable.

The Mail claim that Ten Hag sees Bergwijn as a perfect fit for his system due to the Tottenham man’s ability to play across the front three.

Clubs in Germany and France are also said to be monitoring the Netherlands international’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Spurs would be open to selling the former PSV Eindhoven man for around £20m.

Even though Bergwijn has not fulfilled his potential at Spurs, there is no doubting his talent. I do not think Tottenham would consider selling him to a domestic rival. The club will probably prefer selling him to a foreign club even if it means taking a hit on the transfer fee.
