Report: Eriksen becomes Plan B for third time

Christian Eriksen wasted no time following the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool to express his desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur and seek a challenge away from North London whilst inviting contact from Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet).

The Dane is currently with the rest of the Tottenham squad on their pre-season tour of the Far East.

Eriksen did not feature in Sunday’s 3-2 win against Juventus in Singapore after it was claimed he is still rebuilding his fitness after undergoing a small operation following the European final (The Sun).

Despite being linked with both Real Madrid and Juventus, the 27-year-old appears to be behind Manchester United’s Paul Pogba on both respective club’s shopping list (The Telegraph).

Spanish news outlet Marca are claiming that Eriksen is once again being considered as a back-up option, this time with Atletico Madrid.

The La Liga side, who recently completed the signature of Kieran Trippier have prioritised the signing of Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, who they view as a cheaper option to Eriksen.

Opinion

Eriksen is surely now facing the reality that he could still be at Tottenham come September 1st following the closure of the European transfer window. If this is to be the case, then surely he must signed a new contract rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
