Report: Eriksen could make controversial move to fierce Spurs rivals in January

According to a report from Corriere Dello Sport (as relayed by The Sun), Christian Eriksen could be set for a return to North London in January, but with a key twist.

Eriksen has continued to be overlooked by Antonio Conte this season and is yet to register a single goal or assist so far this campaign (transfermarkt.com).

The Denmark international recently spoke of his frustration at the lack of game time at the San Siro and hinted at a possible move away in January (TV2 Sport).

Football Insider reported two weeks ago that Inter had offered Eriksen to several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, as they were keen to get him off their wage bill.

Corriere Dello Sport now suggest that the 28-year-old could end up at Tottenham’s fierce North London rivals, Arsenal.

Inter are said to be in the market for a defensive midfielder and have reportedly identified Granit Xhaka as a potential option.

The report claims the Gunners could be willing to let the Swiss international leave in a possible swap deal with Eriksen being mooted as a possibility.

If the deal goes through, Eriksen would join a select group of players to represent both Spurs and Arsenal including Pat Jennings, Emmanuel Adebayor, Willian Gallas and Sol Campbell.

It goes without saying that Eriksen will completely destroy his Tottenham legacy if he moves to Arsenal. I can certainly see Arteta wanting to bring the Dane to the Emirates to help solve the Gunners’ lack of creativity in midfield. Let’s hope the midfielder has the good sense to reject the move.
