Report: Eriksen’s hopes of a Madrid move may have taken a blow

Christian Eriksen’s hopes of moving Real Madrid this summer have taken a blow with the news that he has fallen down the Spanish giants shopping list.

Goal report that Madrid have prioritised the signing of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker.

Eriksen revealed just a matter of days after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that he wants to leave the club this summer in order to seek a new challenge (Ekstra Bladet).

Similar to Eriksen, Pogba has also publically spoken about his openness to depart Old Trafford after three seasons in Manchester (Metro).

The report claims that Pogba is wanted by Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane as part of his plans to try and rebuild the Spanish giants after a poor season that saw them finish a staggering 19 points behind rivals Barcelona in the La Liga table.

After recruiting Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo Gomes, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy, Madrid are now said to be ready to focus on selling some of their current squad in order free up some space for the Frenchman (Goal).

Eriksen has just twelve months left to run on his contract at Tottenham and has not ruled out signing an extension if an opportunity does not present itself which is more attractive than playing for the lilywhites (Ekstra Bladet).

Opinion

If the Madrid door has closed for Eriksen then it could mean he will be a Spurs player next season, but only if he can agree to a contract extension.

There is no way that Daniel Levy would allow him to start the new season without penning a new deal to mitigate the risk of him walking away for free next summer.
